I recently discovered the fact that car rental companies try to capitalize on accidents by charging the customers under the pretext of company liabilities. This realization dawned on me when I had a minor accident with another driver who according to his own account was solely responsible the accident. Unfortunately, his car was not insured and it was then that I realized it had been a mistake on my part in not opting for accident coverage.
The rental company all of a sudden started harassing me with phone calls asking me to visit their office every other day. For the next two weeks or so I did nothing but meet most of the employees in the organization while narrating the incidents several hundreds of times to each one of them. It seemed that they had been waiting for something like this to happen for a really long time and found it too good to be true when it actually happened.
Amongst all this chaos and mayhem the company conveniently forgot that the real culprit was in another part of the city. Instead of contacting him to ask for damages the company kept pestering me to pay a host of charges such as processing charges, and peculiar charges for loss of business due to the unavailability if the car for rental purposes. Eventually I ended up making payments of up to $ 250 dollars for no fault of my own.
